Sam-I-Am wants his friend to try green eggs and ham, a meal he thoroughly enjoys but that makes his friend shudder. Green Eggs and Ham is Dr. Seuss' playfully illustrated book with the usual fun with repeated words and phrases. Kids will eagerly read on to the end of this book to see if Sam-I-Am can open his friend's mind. From the Publisher Illus. in color. Sam-I-Am mounts a determined campaign to convince another Seuss character to eat a plate of green eggs and ham. Store Review Erica from Chapters # 788, Langley, BC Bennet Cerf, the founder of Random House, bet Dr. Seuss fifty dollars that he could not write a book using just fifty words. Seuss won that bet with this book, one of the most well-read and loved children's stories of our time. Although it is lengthy for a kid's book, the repetitiveness make the sounds familiar to the kids, and helps them pay attention. Seuss states in his biography, Dr. Seuss and Mr. Geisel: "It's the only book I ever wrote that still makes me laugh." He adds: "Bennet never paid!" Read this book again for the first time. About the Author Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising. His advertising cartoons, featuring Quick, Henry, the Flit!, appeared in several leading American magazines. Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, and the world of children’s literature was changed forever! In 1957, Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House’s best- selling series, Beginner Books. This popular series combined engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills. Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped kids learn to read. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and three Academy Awards, Seuss was the author and illustrator of 44 children’s books, some of which have been made into audiocassettes, animated television specials, and videos for children of all ages. Even after his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss continues to be the best-selling author of children’s books in the world. Review Quotes "Limited vocabulary but unlimited exuberance of illustration."-- School Library Journal. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 2 1. Great Kids Book Reviewer: Sean from Calgary, AB (svannorman@novatel.ca) Date: 8/25/2000 12:03:03 PM Reading Green Eggs and Ham to my son was as enjoyable from him as it was for me. The pictures were very help full for my son to understand some of the words. Overall I give Green Eggs and Ham 2 thumbs up. 2. Great book for people of any age Reviewer: Vickers from Vancouver, B.C. (vickers_had_a_littlle_lamb@hotmil.com) Date: 8/24/2000 6:51:56 PM When I first read this book, I must have been about 4, now I am 14 and I still love it. It is one of my all-time favourites. Dr. Seuss was a genius in his time, he had the ability to make the ordinary, like eggs and ham, into a hillarious work of art that anyone with half a sense of humour will LOVE. I recently read this to my 2 year old cousin, she adored it even though she couldn't understand all of it, she loved it because of how funny some of the words sound. It is also a great read for anyone who just needs cheering up; you can't help but laugh at this incredably funny book.
